Our Structures / Pergolas

Custom Timber Frame Pergolas

Define a patio, shade a deck, or frame the walk to your front door with a hand-built hemlock pergola — open-air structure with all the craftsmanship of our timber frames.

What it is

An Open-Air Frame With A Finished Look

A pergola is an open timber structure — posts and an overhead lattice of beams and rafters, without a solid roof. It won’t fully shelter you from rain, but it defines a space, casts dappled shade, and gives climbing plants, string lights, or a shade cloth somewhere to live.

We build ours the same way we build our pavilions and pavilions’ bigger timber frame cousins: real Eastern Hemlock, cut and joined by hand, sized and detailed to fit your patio, deck, or entryway.

Why A Pergola

Shape Outdoor Space Without Enclosing It

1

Defines Space, Doesn't Enclose It

An open frame marks out a patio, walkway, or garden area while keeping the sightlines and airflow of the outdoors.

2

Real Eastern Hemlock

Built from the same solid hemlock timbers as our pavilions and frames — not dimensional lumber from a big-box lot.

3

True Joinery

Posts and beams are cut and joined by hand, the same craft we use across every timber frame structure we build.

4

Attached Or Freestanding

Set against your house to extend the living space, or freestanding to anchor a spot elsewhere on the property.

5

A Frame For Plantings & Shade

Rafters give climbing vines, string lights, or a shade cloth or sail something sturdy to attach to.

6

Sized To Your Space

Every pergola is built to order, so the footprint and post spacing are set to fit your patio or deck exactly.

Styles & Placements

Where A Pergola Fits On Your Property

Timber Frame Pergola, Patio and Fireplace

Attached To The House

Built off an existing wall or ledger, an attached pergola extends the living space right outside the back door — a natural spot for a patio table, an outdoor kitchen, or a sitting area just off the house.

Freestanding In The Yard

Set on its own posts and footers, a freestanding pergola can anchor a garden, mark a fire pit or hot tub area, or simply give an open lawn a defined destination.

Detailed Like A Timber Frame

Because it’s built with the same joinery and timber as our larger structures, a pergola carries the same character — chamfered edges, exposed rafter tails, and joints cut to fit, not just fastened.

Made To Fit

Every Pergola Is Sized And Detailed For Its Spot

Because each one is built to order, the footprint, post spacing, and finish are set around your patio, deck, or entry — not the other way around.

Footprint

Sized to your patio, deck, or entryway rather than a fixed catalog dimension.

Post Style

Square or chamfered hemlock posts, sized to suit the scale of the structure.

Rafter Layout

Spacing and overhang set for the shade and look you’re after.

Finish

Natural, stained, or painted timber to match your home or landscape.

Pricing

Every Pergola Is Quoted To The Project

Because size, post spacing, roof style, and finish all vary by site, we price pergolas individually rather than off a fixed list. Share your dimensions and where it’s going, and we’ll put together a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a pergola and a pavilion?

A pergola is an open frame of posts and overhead rafters with no solid roof — it shades and defines a space but won’t fully keep out rain. A pavilion has a complete roof and offers full weather cover. If you want year-round shelter, a pavilion is the better fit; if you want an open, garden-style structure, a pergola is likely what you’re after.

Yes. We build both attached pergolas, ledgered to an existing wall, and freestanding pergolas set on their own posts and footers, depending on where you want it and what your home allows.

The same real Eastern Hemlock timber we use across our pavilions and custom frames, joined with true timber-frame joinery rather than basic fasteners.

Many customers add a shade cloth, sail, or climbing plants across the rafters. If you’re considering a solid roof, let us know up front — it changes how the frame should be engineered, so it’s easier to plan for at the start.

Because each pergola is built to order, the footprint is set to your space rather than picked from a fixed list. Share your patio or deck dimensions and we’ll help size it correctly.

Pergolas are quoted individually based on size, post spacing, and finish. Request a quote and we’ll follow up with pricing for your specific project.
