A Timber Frame Pavilion You Can Raise Yourself
Our screw together pavilions are built from the same locally sourced Eastern Hemlock timbers we use in our custom frames. The difference is how they go together. Instead of hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joints, every timber is pre-cut, labeled, and fastened with GRK structural lag screws and steel post brackets.
That makes them a natural fit for homeowners, property owners, and organizations who want the look and strength of a heavy timber pavilion without commissioning a fully custom build — and who like the idea of putting it up with their own crew.

What A Screw Together Pavilion Looks Like
Open, Timber-Framed Shelter
Four 6×6 hemlock posts carry a king-post truss with a 6:12 roof pitch and 9-inch overhangs. The result is a clean, open structure with the substantial look of traditional timber framing — a shaded spot for gatherings, grilling, hot tubs, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
A Connection You Can See
Timbers meet at steel post brackets and are locked together with 4″, 8″, and 12″ GRK structural lag screws driven through braces, headers, struts, and the ridge beam. It’s a straightforward, repeatable connection — no chisel work, and no guessing whether a joint is seated correctly.
Arrives As An Organized Kit
Posts, tie beams, eave headers, the ridge beam, rafters, struts, and braces all arrive cut to length and labeled, packed with the brackets, lag screws, tongue-and-groove roof boards, and a step-by-step manual. You’ll know exactly what each piece is and where it goes.
The Assembly
How The Screw Together System Goes Together
Six clear stages take you from a prepared pad to a finished roof. Every timber connection is made with structural lag screws and the included brackets.

Set Your Footers
Lay out and pour concrete footers to your local code — a 12″ × 36″ Sonotube is recommended — then level the four base plates.
step 2
Stand The Posts
Set the four 6×6 hemlock posts plumb and lag them to the base brackets so the frame starts square.

Frame The Top
Add the tie beams, eave headers, and 45° braces, fastening each with structural lag screws to lock the frame together.

Build The Truss
Install the king post and struts on the tie beam, then set the 6×8 ridge beam on top to complete the king-style truss.

Rafters & Roof Boards
Space the 4×6 rafters between ridge and eave, then fasten the tongue-and-groove roof boards across the top.

Finish The Roof
Add drip edge and, if chosen, your metal roofing package — panels, rake, gutter apron, and ridge cap — to close it in.
Concrete footers should be sized and placed to meet your local code — we recommend a 12″ × 36″ Sonotube footing. Foundation anchors and roof-board fasteners are supplied by the installer.

What is a screw together pavilion?
It’s a heavy timber pavilion built from real Eastern Hemlock, but assembled with structural lag screws and steel brackets rather than traditional hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joinery. The timbers come pre-cut and labeled as a kit you can raise on your own site.
How is it different from your mortise-and-tenon frames?
The materials are the same locally sourced hemlock timbers. The difference is the connection: instead of chiseling and fitting wooden joints, the pieces are fastened with 4″, 8″, and 12″ GRK structural lag screws. That makes the kit far more approachable for a DIY raise while keeping the substantial timber-frame look.
Can I assemble it myself?
Yes — the kit is designed for it. Most frames can be raised by a small crew with standard tools. If you’d rather not, our team can deliver and install it for you.
What tools will I need?
An impact driver or drill, a level, and a ladder cover most of the work. You’ll also supply the screws or nails used to fasten the tongue-and-groove roof boards, which are not included in the kit.
What kind of foundation is required?
The posts sit on concrete footers anchored to base plates. We recommend a 12″ × 36″ Sonotube footing, but footers should be sized and placed to meet your local code. Foundation anchors are supplied by the installer — contact us for guidance on your specific site.
What sizes are available?
Current kits come in 12×12, 14×14, and 12×16, all built from 6×6 hemlock with the same king-style truss, 6:12 roof pitch, and 9″ overhangs. 12×16 is the largest footprint we offer as a screw-together kit — for anything larger, take a look at our custom post-and-beam pavilions.
Does it include a roof?
Tongue-and-groove roof boards are included. Metal roofing — panels, gutter apron, rake trim, and ridge cap — is available as an optional package. Base kits ship without metal roofing or stain.
